Earthquake! Freeset staff all OK

Apr 25, 2015

Freeset staff and buildings all OK after the April 25 Nepal quake was felt in Kolkata.

Today a 7.9 magnitude earthquake rocked Nepal. Sadly initial reports already put the death toll at more than 1,000 and there has been significant damage to buildings in Kathmandu.

The earthquake was felt by us in Kolkata as a gentle shake for around 30 seconds. Many reported feeling like their head was spinning or that they were struggling to keep their sewing straight before realizing it was an earthquake.

Everyone at Freeset is fine and apart from a few minor cracks, there is no apparent damage to the Freeset buildings in Kolkata.

As a precaution we evacuated all our buildings and inspected them for signs of damage before letting staff back in. Staff were sent home for the rest of the day in case there were any aftershocks.

Our hearts go out to those affected in Nepal.
