February 17, marked the commencement of production under an exciting new outsourcing arrangement between Freeset Bags & Apparel and Love Calcutta Arts (LCA), two freedom businesses based in Kolkata, India.

The collaboration sees the establishment of a new unit of 15 women sewing Freeset bags whilst employed by, and based at, LCA. The women are all former sex-workers (or at high risk of entering the sex trade) who have undergone the same intensive three month skills training programme as Freeset recruits. Priya Mishra, General Manager of LCA and a Freeset Trustee, commented: “I hope that this will be the start of a great innings together! The local community will benefit from this networking opportunity. It will provide more freedom for more people.”

It is anticipated that the unit will have a production capacity of around 2500 bags a month.
